Civil society is under pressure: constant change and the increasing complexity of the political and economic system are essential challenges for society and state. The pluralistic civil society needs to actively engage current social issues and debates in order not to be marginalized.
Civil society will intervene in particular where it can contribute to constructive solutions besides the state and the economy. To that end it should articulate the values which favour a “civil” coexistence of society on the one hand and the political-economic system on the other hand. Society must be able to act in the sense of a dialectical corrective of political and economic structures.
The Civil Society Association generates and strengthens the consciousness for this field of tension.
Civil society is by no means limited by state borders. The integration of the economy and politics in the European realm is rapidly progressing. The Association would like to contribute to the genesis not only of a Swiss but also of a European civil society and actively shape the cultural, political and social reality.

Februar 2012 Vom Sonderfall zum ungeliebten Musterknaben: Gedanken zu den Standortvorteilen der Schweiz im taumelnden Europa Die Schweiz ist aktuell in einer besseren wirtschaftlichen Verfassung als viele andere Staaten. Auch die Finanzkrise vor drei Jahren bewältigte die Schweiz quasi im Eilzugtempo, während sich die Wirtschaft vieler Staaten jetzt noch auf der Kriechspur befindet. Sprach man früher vom Sonderfall Schweiz, passt heute eher der Begriff des Musterknaben für unsere spezielle Stellung. Sind Sonderfälle noch gelitten, werden Musterknaben selten geliebt, häufiger beneidet. Die Angriffe auf unsere Standortvorteile – Finanzplatz und Steuerfragen – führten den Unmute anderer Länder deutlich vor Augen. Das wirft die Frage auf, wo denn eigentlich unsere Vorteile heute noch liegen und wie stark diese gefährdet sind.
